Job Summary Monitor, maintain and oversee the handling of cash for the hotel.
Position Reports directly to Director of Financial Planning and Reporting.
II.
Essential Job Functions- Cashier a.
Open and verify cash “drop” envelopes from outlets and Front Desk.
b.
Prepare and distribute the various reports to outlet managers, Front Desk, and Accounting.
c.
Audit house banks as per schedule.
d.
Prepare paperwork for bank deposit at prescribed time(s).
e.
Assist income auditor with charge back research as necessary f.
Assist accounts payable with invoices and check (copies) daily as required.
g.
Perform related duties and prepare reports as required or requested.
h.
Collect previous day’s deposit form the drop safe accompanied by one witness; compare deposit envelope totals to deposit log by name and amount and witness initials log sheet.
i.
Audit deposit drop envelopes, comparing the actual amount dropped versus the appropriate register reading report prepared by night audit.
Verify that proper deposit procedures are followed.
Copy the final deposit reconciliation for appropriate department heads and income audit.
Prepare daily deposit for armored car pickup, or for transportation to the bank.
j.
Maintain an accurate over/short log for each department by cashier for distribution at month end.
Both monthly and annual records should be maintained.
k.
Report shortages over $5.
00 to department heads along with a copy of the deduction form with the employee’s name.
l.
Investigate cash variances with department heads and income auditor to see if they can be resolved.
Notify security if necessary.
m.
Responsible for entire hotel petty cash fund, both general cashier safe and house bank contracts.
n.
Insure all house banks are counted monthly on a random and surprise basis.
Maintain bank audit records.
o.
Pay out approved petty cash vouchers as needed and submit completed envelope to Accounts Payable on a weekly basis for reimbursement.
Petty cash vouchers are to be made out in ink, dated and signed by the person receiving the money and the CFO or DFPR.
Each voucher must be coded to the appropriate general ledger account before reimbursement.
p.
Count safe once a week with witness and submit count sheet to the DFPR.
q.
Order sufficient change from the bank as warranted the service to the hotel.
r.
Maintain due back log as necessary.
s.
Issue and control gift certificates, tickets and coupons.
Relay additional orders to purchasing.
III.
Education, Experience and Skill Requirements a.
High school or equivalent education required.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
b.
Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
c.
Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.
d.
Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
e.
Ability to work accurately and rapidly with figures.
f.
Ability to prepare and analyze data, figures, and transcriptions prepared on and generated by computer.
g.
One to two years cash handling or Accounting experience required.
h.
Must possess basic accounting skills.
i.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
j.
Must be able to work well under pressure.
k.
Must be 10-key proficient.
l.
Must possess excellent organizational skills.
