\*\*\*ALL candidates must have their degrees from foreign countries translated to ENGLISH to be considered\*\*\* O’FARRILL LEARNING CENTER JOB DESCRIPTION *POSITION TITLE: Substitute * *DUTIES: * The incumbent will assist with activities for children 3 to 5 years old in a preschool classroom setting.
Supervision is received from the Teacher and/or Teacher Assistant who reviews work for effective assistance in the care and development of children enrolled in the program.
1) Provides children with developmentally appropriate activities designed to promote social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth.
2) Follows a schedule that balances activity and quiet, free and structured, individual and group, indoor, and outdoor activities, as well as daily routines 3) Communicates with children to develop appropriate language skills 4) Manages classroom and maintains discipline in the classroom using positive guidance techniques and promoting self-control among children 5) Interacts with children in indoor and outdoor play and games providing close supervision to the whole group and to the environment at all times 6) Helps children develop basic health habits 7) Promotes a positive social and learning experience at meal times 8) Assist children with toileting practices in preparation for meal to promote good habits of hygiene 9) Keeps cleanliness and organization in classroom area 10) Performs related work as required.
*KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: * 1) DCF 45 Child care hours are required.
2) Knowledge of Child Development and Psychology 3) Knowledge of HRS regulations, Child Day Care Standards Manual, Florida Chapter 10M-12 4) Ability to maintain a positive discipline by encouraging self-control among children 5) Ability to develop educational materials and teaching aides JOB DESCRIPTION SUBSTITUTE 6) Story-telling ability 7) Ability to use audio-visual equipment 8) Knowledge of and the ability to administer simple first aid, take temperature, bandage, etc 9) Ability to interact with preschool children in the classroom and in outdoor activities.
10) Ability to develop skills in observing and recording information about children and their families in a non-judgmental manner for use in planning and carrying out the daily program.
*SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: * Teacher delegates responsibilities to Teacher Assistant who are informed and explained before hand of new task.
In addition, factors and conditions requiring consideration are the size of the classroom and setting of learning area, the average child attendance, and the demands from funding sources in relation to preschool program education to better assure quality services for young children.
*SCOPE AND EFFECT: * The purpose of the work is to provide quality childcare services through developmentally appropriate practices to a group of preschool children.
Teachers integrate their work and constantly adapt their skills always thinking of the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development of the whole child.
Teachers individualize their work with each child while meeting the needs of the group; they promote multiculturalism, support families of different cultural background, and meet the needs of children with special needs.
Teachers also demonstrate personal qualities such as flexibility and positive style of communicating with young children and working with families.
Teachers keep up-to-date on laws and policies concerning child abuse and neglect, and learn effective ways of working with affected children and families.
*PERSONAL CONTACTS AND PURPOSE: * It includes face-to-face daily contacts with children, parents, and family members as well as with occasionally visitors and/or funding sources staff.
Answering the telephone and taking messages from different agencies in the community as needed.
Personal contacts are also made with program administrator and coworkers.
The purpose and extent of each of these contacts depends upon the situation and ranges from specific instructions from parents related to child’s needs to easily understood messages given over the phone or in person.
Teacher contacts Lead Teacher in regards to children illness and/or any special situation that may require the presence of the parent on the premises.
This position also requires the skill to deal effectively with parents that may be affected by a hardship situation and react negatively in a given circumstance.
JOB DESCRIPTION SUBSTITUTE *PHYSICAL DEMAND: * Work is performed in a child day care setting.
It involves the coordination of activities to work effectively with young children at their eye level, meaning bending, and sitting on the floor or small chairs.
While supervising children outdoor activities, the staff teaches and participates in developmentally appropriate games and activities.
Carrying lightweight such as cots, trashcans, and more general classroom furniture is also expected.
*WORK ENVIRONMENT: * The work environment of a child day care setting is planned to meet year round requirements of the young child and his family in a center that opens eleven hours a day to accommodate family needs.
Environment could be hazardous because there are more chances to get sick due to close contact with small children, exposition to vomit, coughing, runny noses, diarrhea, and other common diseases among children.
Washing hands constantly and before and after assisting a child is a mandatory health practice.
