The Part-Time General Instructor provides basic training in the general subject areas to police, corrections, or federal law enforcement officer candidates, develops lesson plans, practical exercises and other training aids.
Instruction involves classroom work, lecture, demonstrations of the required FDLE and NPS curriculum when necessary and constructive feedback and evaluation of student's conduct and class performance.
Duties & Responsibilities
Instructs, evaluates and monitors students and provides classroom instruction
Participates in curriculum development and revision assesses the curriculum against state and federal standards
Recommends and identifies improvements as needed
Assists in the development of instructor guides, lesson plans, training aids and reference materials Supervises field experiences and/or internships
Reacts promptly, appropriately, and decisively in emergencies in which personal safety and that of others may be threatened
Performs basic first aid and CPR if necessary
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or G.
E.
D.
equivalent from a regionally accredited institution and prior Police, Corrections, Military, Federal or private sector training experience
Three (3) years of instructional or teaching experience
CJSTC CMS General Instructor Certification or FLETC certified (for federal law enforcement courses only)
Remain in good standing with agency or honorably retired/separated
Completion of an Internship Program
Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
Possess exemplary interpersonal skills
Possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work evenings and weekends with the understanding the availability of hours will vary based on the needs of the program and a minimum amount of hours is not guaranteed
Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
Preferences
Five (5) years teaching experience preferred
