*Job Summary* Provides leadership, vision, and direction for the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University through its exhibitions, interpretive materials, and collections.
Develops long term, mission-oriented relationships with FIU faculty, artists, higher education institutions, the museum's Advisory Council, community members and organizations, museum colleagues, and collectors.
Serves as a vocal and visible leader and public spokesperson and ambassador for the institution and its program.
* Envision, develop, and implement an exhibition strategy that contributes to the Frost's reputation as a leader in the museum field and an asset to the region, state, and nation.
* Employ the highest standards for research and knowledge of art and best museum practice to develop and implement exhibitions that are timely, relevant, and encourage dialogues.
* Oversee all aspects of exhibition planning and implementation, including organization of in-house exhibitions, work with guest curators, implement exhibition contracts, scheduling artwork shipping, and planning installation/de-installation calendar for all galleries.
Works with communities that speak English and Spanish.
* Preserve, interpret, and promote the advancement and understanding of the Frost's collection through creative interpretation, exhibitions, and publications.
* Create collecting plan to guide acquisitions for growth of permanent collection.
* Make recommendations for the permanent collection, including accession/deaccession decisions.
Serve as liaison to Advisory Council for Art Committee.
* Oversee and mentor department staff, make staffing and hiring decisions for department as needed.
* Develop and adhere to annual curatorial department budget, demonstrate sound fiscal responsibility.
* Provide vision and guidance on public programs, working with department of education to ensure relevance of exhibitions to FIU courses.
* Provide tours and presentations for faculty, students, and high dollar donors on an as-needed basis.
* Work closely with the Director and Director of Development to identify, cultivate and steward current and future museum patrons and donors.
* Helps identify and write grants to support exhibitions, collections research, and other areas related to museum growth.
* Ensure the institution is adhering to American Alliance of Museums(AAM) standards for exhibitions, collections, and curatorial programming.
Help with museum reaccreditation process.
* Develop and maintain relationships with community leaders, FIU faculty, artists, donors, collectors, and professional colleagues.
* Participate as a key member of the institution's leadership team, works collaboratively across departments to implement the museum's mission.
* Build upon relationships with artists, gallerists, and museum professionals locally, nationally and internationally to raise the profile of the museum, and mentor curatorial staff and students to do the same.
*Minimum Qualifications* * Bachelor's degree in related discipline and seven (7) years' experience in related field or a Master's degree and five (5) years' experience in related field.
*Desired Qualifications* * Minimum 10 years museum curatorial experience with an established track record of exhibitions, professional publications, and active involvement in affiliate groups (AAMC, AAMG).
* Experience managing budgets.
* Specialist in modern and/or contemporary art.
* Track record of teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
